| 1.CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO P0401) |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.
Read the DTC.
| Result | Proceed to |
| DTC P0401 is output | A |
| DTC P0401 and other DTCs are output | B |

| 2.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (CONTROL THE EGR STEP POSITION) |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or more.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the EGR Step Position.
Check the MAP and Engine Speed in Date List at the idling condition while performing Active Test.
| - | EGR Step Position (Active Test) | |
| 0 Steps | 0 to 30 Steps | |
| Idling condition | Steady idling | Idling changes from steady to rough idling |
| MAP (Data List) | - | MAP value is at least +10 kPa (75 mmHg) higher than when EGR valve is fully closed |
|

| 4.REPLACE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Replace the EGR valve assembly (Click here).
| NEXT | |
| 5.CHECK FOR DEPOSIT (EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER TO EGR VALVE) |
Check for cracks, damage, and clogs in the pipes between the exhaust manifold converter and the EGR valve assembly.
Check for exhaust leaks at each connection point.
|
| ||||
| OK | |
| 6.CHECK FOR DEPOSIT (EGR VALVE TO INTAKE PORT) |
Check for cracks, damage, and clogs in the pipes between the exhaust manifold converter and the EGR valve assembly.
Check for exhaust leaks at each connection point.
|
| ||||
| OK | |
| 7.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR) |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / MAP.
Read the MAP value.
| Engine condition | Tester Display |
| Ignition switch ON | 80 to 110 kPa (600 to 825 mmHg) |
Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or more.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / MAP.
Read the MAP value with the engine at idle, and with the A/C and all accessory switches off and with the shift lever in P, N or neutral.
